1. Players must be over 18. 2. Adult content is perfectly fine, but should be done in locked posts, with a clear warning on the post. Please be rational and sensible about this. You cannot play out anything explicit with characters under 18 or animals. 3. All players must have at least one line of communication open and be willing to communicate reasonably and sensibly with one another. (Whilst HMD is not compulsory, it is recommended to have a contact post on your character's journal, both for ease of communication and to be available for constructive criticism.) 4. IC does not equal OOC. Negative CR (character relation(s)) is good! But it is only that - CR. Do not use it to air OOC problems, and equally, do not take it personally. Equally, IC opinions do not equal OOC opinions; whether that is characters disliking each other, or on potentially controversial issues (racism/homophobia/sexism etc). 5. IC actions have IC consequences. By all means, characters can do anything they like - up to and including murder - but they live with other people, in a community. Any IC consequences are to be expected. Essentially: if you're not prepared to deal with IC consequences of an IC action - don't do it. 6. No info-modding or metagaming. OOC information should not be used IC if a character does not have solid, rational reasons for knowing it. This includes knowing a character is lying/omitting information without sufficient IC reasoning. Metagaming is very hard to prove, which means that staff will take all accusations of metagaming extremely seriously. If concerns are repeatedly brought against a single player, the player may be asked to have their character ignore any ambiguous information, to drop a character, or to leave the game. 7. No godmodding. Godmodding can be exceptionally frustrating to deal with and has the potential to rip out all the fun from playing, so it is strictly prohibited. This includes the following: a) making your character unbeatable, indestructible, or all knowing; b) Controlling a thread by assuming another character's actions without prior permission from their player; c) Not making the player of a character aware of a situation they would know about (for example: failing to inform a player that someone was murdered outside their characters' front door counts as godmodding them into being inattentive or uncaring); d) Using powers/abilities above what you named as the restrictions in your application without mod approval. 8. All plots which potentially affect the environment as a whole, or a significant number of characters, should be posted on the OOC board before they happen. This is in order to give characters adequate warning of things they should feasibly take notice of. If a player repeatedly fails to notify the game of large events, they may be prohibited from creating such events in future. 9. Players will be expected to have a reasonable level of activity to have additional characters. While we do not have an activity check, activity will be taken into account when looking at new applications. Reasonable activity is considered to be: participating in game events, posts with the character, and tagging others in the game. We expect reasonable activity from all characters played by someone. We may accept an application provisionally, in the event activity improves, or another character is dropped. These restrictions do not apply if you plan to drop one character and replace them. Players are restricted to five characters in the game at anyone time, but can apply for a sixth at the mods' discretion, if their activity is high enough to maintain that many characters. 10. Characters under 16 years of age will not be accepted. The game contains mature themes and concepts and we don't feel a child or young teenage character would be appropriate here. "Aging up" characters (taking them from a point beyond canon when they are older) is acceptable if a history can be provided from that time. Characters who died in canon cannot be aged up. 11. Characters who are from a canon less than a month old will not be accepted. This is mainly to prevent fad or spontaneous applications, but also helps to prevent other players being spoiled by your character. Once the month is over, they are free to be applied. Characters taken from a canon point (in a book/TV show/etc) which is less than a month old will be dealt with case-by-case and may be asked to choose a different canon point or to wait. 12. Original Characters are not permitted. 13. All characters must be living. As the aim is eventually to wake up at home, all characters must come from a point in their canon when they are alive. This can include a canon point immediately before death. Vampire and other undead characters may be taken after their natural death, but not after final death (i.e. after they become a vampire, but not after they were destroyed). 14. Non-human characters may be considered or allowed on a case-by-case basis. For more information on specifically what is allowed and what is not, please view our FAQ. 15. All powers are limited. Characters with powers must have limitations placed on their powers. Powers may be removed entirely, if it fits the character and can be explained as to why that would make sense and be beneficial, but no character will be forced to remove their powers entirely. All powers are limited to a potentially fatal but not ungodly level in an attempt to even out the dynamics of the game and due to the nature of the world itself. 16. If you are applying to a canon already represented in your game, please inform any canon mates. It's merely a matter of courtesy; if there's a Dr Watson, it's polite to tell them you're going to send in a Sherlock Holmes (this also goes for alternate universes, ie if you have a book Watson and are applying for a BBC TV Sherlock). You can contact them by comment, PM, etc. 17. Shared PBs or 'face-twins' are absolutely accepted, but please be sensible. Sometimes, this is very unavoidable. Generally, if you intend on using a PB that is already in game, it would be advised (though not required) to send the other player a message/drop them a comment. If the character is from a a book/comic/etc. source, it would be preferred if shared PBs are avoided where possible. On this note: No stealing each others' icons without permission. That's plain rude. 16. Fourth walling is allowed with player permission, and under the condition it's taken seriously and done with moderation. Whilst it's understandable that some characters will, IC, know other characters from fiction, maintaining your sense of reality is an important feature of this game, and it is important the fourth wall is not treated lightly, as it could seriously affect a characters' sanity within the game. |
